Advanced Seismic Interpretation
Description
The objective of this course is to provide E&P professionals with knowledge of the latest in Seismic Interpretation techniques. The course will start with a summary of the basic knowledge required to understand the geophysics behind seismic interpretation and then move on to cover various topics in seismic interpretation including post-stack seismic attributes, AVO, seismic sequence stratigraphy, seismic geomorphology, 4D time-lapse seismic, and multidisciplinary integration. The latest advances in inversion and application of artificial intelligence to seismic interpretation will be included in the course.
Introduction
Seismic interpretation is a cornerstone of successful exploration and production in the oil and gas industry. With advancements in seismic data processing and analytics, accurate interpretation has become both more challenging and more rewarding. This advanced course delves into sophisticated interpretation techniques, helping participants transform raw seismic data into actionable insights for strategic field development.
Objectives
Upon completing this course, participants will be able to:
- Apply advanced seismic interpretation techniques to identify subsurface structures and reservoirs.
- Utilize seismic attributes and AVO analysis for enhanced data interpretation.
- Integrate geological and geophysical data to construct accurate subsurface models.
- Improve accuracy in predicting reservoir properties and fluid distribution.
- Support decision-making with high-quality seismic interpretation data.
Training Methodology
The course combines lectures, case studies, and practical exercises. Participants will engage in interactive sessions with real seismic datasets and interpretive software, ensuring skills are directly applicable to their projects. The training includes group discussions and Q&A sessions to facilitate peer learning and expert feedback.

Andrew Ross has worked in the oil industry and academia as a geophysicist since 1991 most recently for Schlumberger in Denmark.
Andrew Ross Geophysical Consulting was founded in May 2015 primarily to provide training in theoretical geophysics and practical applications in Petrel mostly in collaboration with Schlumberger's NExT training network.
In addition to training through NExT's programme, we can offer bespoke training in theoretical geophysics and practical applications in Petrel developed using real-life training examples from a client's data portfolio. Our speciality is Petrel training course development in the areas of Quantitative Interpretation, Seismic Inversion and Seismic Interpretation.
