Geosteering Using Software
This comprehensive Geosteering course combines a well-structured theoretical foundation — concise, essential, and easy to grasp — with practical training using the cutting-edge StarSteer software by ROGII.
The training begins with fundamental theory, followed by the step-by-step creation of a geosteering model.
Key workflows are then introduced, including model-based and stratigraphic methods, borehole image interpretation, and bed boundary inversion — powerful StarSteer features for advanced geosteering tasks.
Finally, we reinforce these skills through practice with three dedicated geosteering simulators.
By the end of the course, participants will be capable of interpreting geological data, optimizing well placement in real time, adjusting drilling trajectories, and making confident, data-driven decisions using industry-standard geosteering technology.
Description
Geosteering is a crucial technique in modern drilling operations, enabling engineers and geoscientists to optimize well placement while drilling. This course provides hands-on training in geosteering software, covering fundamental concepts, real-time data interpretation, and advanced decision-making techniques. Participants will gain practical experience in adjusting well trajectories based on formation evaluation, increasing hydrocarbon recovery, and minimizing drilling risks.
Demo Class
In today's oil and gas industry, precise well placement is key to maximizing reservoir contact and improving production efficiency. Geosteering integrates geological, geophysical, and petrophysical data to make informed decisions during drilling operations. This course is designed to bridge the gap between theory and practice, providing participants with hands-on experience in using specialized geosteering software for real-time wellbore adjustments.
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
Understand the principles of geosteering and its role in well placement
Interpret real-time drilling and logging data for optimal decision-making
Utilize geosteering software for trajectory adjustments
Improve reservoir contact and enhance hydrocarbon recovery
Reduce drilling risks and operational costs through precise wellbore navigation
This course combines theoretical learning with hands-on practical exercises. Participants will engage in:
Interactive lectures from industry experts
Case studies and real-world examples
Hands-on training with leading geosteering software
Group discussions and problem-solving sessions
Q&A sessions to address specific challenges
Improved well placement accuracy and reservoir drainage
Enhanced decision-making in drilling operations
Reduced non-productive time and drilling risks
Increased overall production efficiency
Adoption of best practices in geosteering and real-time data analysis
After training you will be able to:
1. Perform basic work in StarSteer:
• Prepare geosteering models
• Adjust models using the stratigraphic and model methods, borehole images and inversion
• Perform analysis of drilled wells, evaluate the correctness of trajectory changes
• Work with two-layer inversion of non-azimuthal resistivity
• Work with geosteering simulators
2. Perform analysis of geosteering and MLWD services on your projects:
• Perform lithology differentiation, understand LWD curves behavior and geosteering reports
• Evaluate the effectiveness and quality of the geosteering methods used
• Monitor the telemetry process for better control of well construction and NPT reduction
• Evaluate the quality of contractors’ services in logging, images and D&I
• Evaluate the quality of contractors’ services in logging, images and D&I
This course is ideal for:
Geologists and Geophysicists
Drilling and Reservoir Engineers
Petrophysicists
Mud Loggers and Logging While Drilling (LWD) Specialists
Technical professionals involved in drilling operations and well placement
Borehole
images. Examples and practice. Geosteering simulator №2
On successful completion of this training course, PEA Certificate will be awarded to the delegates.
